Australia and New Zealand are famed for their natural beauty. The larger of two, Australia can go from the extremes of endless sunbaked horizons to dense tropical rain forest and chilly southern beaches. The population is scattered along the coasts and its cities are a blend European enthusiasm for art and food with a laid-back love of sport and the outdoors. New Zealand is a country of rare seismic beauty: glacial mountains, fast-flowing rivers, deep, clear lakes, hissing geysers and boiling mud. There are abundant forest reserves, long, deserted beaches and a variety of fauna, such as the kiwi, endemic to its shores. Although for the majority of people, it is quite a journey to get there, once you arrive, it is well worth it.
