Asia is a vast tract of land stretching from the Middle East to the Orient including the mighty Himalayan range, the tropical islands of the Indian Ocean and the Oriental countries of the Pacific. From this area emerged some of the most famous rulers the world has ever known, from Genghis Khan to Alexander the Great and the great Emperors of Japan and China. Mountain ranges and endless deserts but also dazzling white sand beaches and tropical jungles characterize much of this historic region. There are fascinating, modern cities and monuments to ancient civilizations contrasting with tranquil hideaways of swaying palm trees. It can be a challenging destination for the adventurous or a relaxing paradise.
